Ultimate 2008. Wandy got what he deserved.

December 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

Usually these mega fight cards don’t live up to the hype, especially when you start the night off with Cheick Kongo vs some no name in a battle of intentional nut cracking. Fortunately the first main event quality fight of the night was right after that. We all know the back story of Rampage vs Silva, the brutality, the bloodletting, the hubris. But that was then and this is now. This ain’t Pride, this ain’t Japan, there is no Chute Boxe, and there aren’t anymore refs that are partial to Wanderlei. Speaking of backstory, most hardcore fans were rightfully concerned about what could have happened to Rampage in this fight. Quinton Jackson has had a tremendous amount of turmoil in his life during the past year. From losing the belt in a close match, to going crazy and damn near getting shot by the cops, to leaving his camp and trainer and going to train at Wolf’s Layer  in England of all places. Sum that all up and the signs clearly pointed to him taking another severe thrashing from Wanderlei. But in the end it all worked out for Quinton Jackson in stunning highlight fashion. We can only hope that things in his personal life go this smoothly from here on out.

So where does this leave the once feared “Axe Murderer”? Well, at this point  Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell are in a very similar place in their lives. During their prime they were monsters, they were Mike Tyson-esqe, and a huge draw. But now, the truth is they are simply living off their past reputations and exploits. Today they’re far from their now distant glory days. Conversely while I do believe Rampage has maxed out his talent and potential, he is undeniably a far better fighter than he was in his Pride days. Wanderlei on the other hand continues his downward trend. Yes, he is still a draw, and yes you may still see an occasional glimpse of the old Wanderlei  when he goes “Keith Jardine” upside someone’s head. But the reality is that today, right now, the Wanderlei Silva we are seeing is the one  that was devastatingly knocked out by Crocop, put to sleep by Dan henderson, beat up by Chuck Liddell, and brutally knocked out by Rampage Jackson. It all takes it’s toll, and this ain’t Japan.

How great did Frank Mir look tonight?! Holy shit, I’ve never seen him strike like that before. I didn’t know he even had that in him. It pained me to see a legend like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira look very old, very slow, very vulnerable and very hittable. Going forward it’s exciting to think about the possibilities of what Frank Mir is going to do to that guy from the WWF. If Mir brings that kind of striking against former WWF stunt man Brock Lesnar, then he may do us all a huge favor and rid us of this pox upon the sport of MMA known as Lesnar.

The main event was quite entertaining. Forrest Griffin is a guy that I’ve always had mixed feelings about. I enjoy watching him fight, and I generally like him, but he only beat Rampage by the slimmest of margins and  I don’t think you should be able to win a belt like that. Forrest is a very well rounded mixed martial artist, but the problem is that he is not particularly great at anything. He lacks knock out power, and has shown to be a bit chinny. Despite this, I still think Forrest will be a top three light heavyweight for the duration of his career, and perhaps if the stars align properly he could hold the belt again someday.

So what about the new light heavyweight champion? I don’t know what to make of Rashad. I thought Chuck Liddell would be to much for him, I thought Forrest would pick him apart and out point him. Rashad is very perplexing. I do remember noticing very early on in TUF2 that he had some serious punching power and very unorthodox striking. He has a very strange approach, the dancing, and staying at a distance. But the fact is that no matter how you slice it, Rashad Evans is a bad muthafucker. He is a national champion wrestler, with quick hands and crazy punching power. The guy is undefeated. That pretty much speaks for itself. How stylistically bizarre would an Lyoto Machida vs Rashad Evans fight be, just wrap your mind around that one for a minute.

Good morning, no water.

December 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

For whatever reason apparently there is no running water throughout my neighborhood today. This is not a good thing. Especially when you stink like I do. I’m greasy, I’m smelly, and my butt is unclean! I didn’t even get to wash my face. I had to use the dog’s water to wash my hands. I have reverted back to cave man times. I even considered driving to the beach to take a bath in the ocean. If the water doesn’t come back on by 5pm I’m going to have to drive all the way to my grandmothers house to take a bath and wash my face. There are lessons to be learned from this.

1- take a bath before you go to bed because there may be no water tomorrow
2- keep a gallon of water in the fridge for emergencies

Message Board Disrupter Vol. 1

December 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

A compilation of my most recent comments on espn.com, youtube, cnn.com and others

(ESPN) If there was ever a person that deserves to be robbed and beaten, it’s Stephon Marbury.

(booty dance vid on youtube) lol, she looks like a fat retarded donkey in heat.

(some stupid movie trailer on youtube) Are you fucking kidding me? This movie is a total piece of shit. What a waste of money. You could have feed millions of starving children or built homes for the homeless. Instead you made another mtv style teeny bopper horror flick rip off of friday the 13th.

(youtube)who the fuck rated this thing 4 stars?

(youtube)That is not a woman. It’s a man!

(youtube)I wish the horse had kicked him in the face.

(cnn.com)Once again, Campbell Brown STFU, you are irrelevant and your right wing nazi husband is a d-bag. Go away or go to fox.

(ESPN) Hey NY, you can buy fat boy CC, you can buy broke arm Burnett. But you can’t buy David Price, James Shields, Matt Garza, Scott Kazmir and Andy Sonnanstine. And that is why you won’t win the AL East next year.

(ESPN)Sabathia will be an epic fail in NY. I don’t think NY is the right environment for him. And I won’t be shocked at all when David Price has more wins than him next season

(ESPN)In other news, man bra sales are predicted to go through the roof in NYC next year.

(ESPN)The Braves were stupid to pursue two over priced often injured free agents.

(on that stupid video below)A thing of beauty is a joy forever

Yes, Rick Warren is a douche bag.

December 18, 2008 · 1 Comment

There’s been quite the uproar on liberal blogs over the announcement that Rick Warren will be giving the convocation at the inauguration. Frankly, I don’t think he has any business being there, and I think the guy is an asshole. Rick Warren is no friend to liberals or Democrats or any thinking person who believes in equal rights, tolerance, or evolution. Let me break this down very simply, the people who bought Rick Warren’s book “The purpose driven lowlife”, those people voted for McCain. Those people think Sarah Palin would have been a great VP. Those people think Obama is a Muslim. Those people will not be praying for Barack Obama, they’ll be praying for Jeb Bush to save them in 2012. Fuck them.

Hey all you loyal watchers of Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow, do you remember where Rachel Maddow first got her start? It was on Air America Radio  and now she’s hit the big time and will eventually over take that rightwing dumbass Shawn Hannity in the ratings war. Air America radio has had it’s share of ups and down since it’s debut a few years ago. I must admit I stopped listening to Air America when they canceled the Majority Report and let Sam Seder go. But now Air America seems to have learned the error of it’s ways  and has brought Sam Seder back along with former morning host Marc Maron and given them their own afternoon show Sedar vs Maron  Please check the show out, it’s very funny, entertaining, insightful and I make a point to watch it everyday. You should too.

WATCH MARON VS SEDER RIGHT NOW!

Church Notes

man was created in the image of God.

yet  man is corrupt.

man is obsessed with sex, money, and violence.

so what does that tell you about God?

High on Mountain Dew

December 10, 2008 · 2 Comments

I had a strange and uncomfortable experience today. But first, here is a little backstory. I used to be a soda junkie. We’re talking minimum 2-3 cans per day everyday. I kicked the habit cold turkey four years ago. It was literally like kicking a drug habit. I had massive headaches for two weeks, I had caffeine cravings and fatigue because my body need a caffeine jolt. I even saw a doctor about it because I felt like shit. I now only drink soda occasionally at restaurants and such. But more importantly, I don’t like soda anymore. I would say at the most I only drink one can of soda every two months or so, if even that much.

So that brings us to today. I’ve been on a junk food binge the last few days. Today I wanted an Italian sub. No, not that Subway or Quiznos bullshit, I wanted a real old school Italian sub. So I went to a local place called Philly Flava. Although their specialty is philly cheese steaks, they also make some decent subs. I figured that if I’m going to eat junk food I might as well buy a Mountain Dew to go with it. The sub was pretty good, not great but pretty damn good. The Dew washed it down. Everything was good, or so it seemed. Then about fifteen minutes later I began to feel real jittery and speeded up. I wasn’t sure what the hell it was at first, then I connected the dots and realized that I had just drank a giant size Mountain Dew (two cans worth), and I haven’t had any soda in my system within the last three or four months. Yes folks, I was high on Mountain Dew.

The moral to the story is that soda is still bad. Discuss this amongst your friends and loved ones.

Stupid fucking Democrats

December 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

First Spitzer, now this idiot Blagojevich. The Spitzer thing broke my heart because he was one of the few Democrats willing to take on the Wall street criminals. He would have made a great attorney general. Blogojevich on the other hand seems to be just another worthless egomaniacal political fuckthead who thought he was above the law. Ironically the prosecutor who will send Blogo to jail is none other than Patrick Fitzgerald. You remember Patrick Fitzgerald don’t you? He was the impotent fuck who failed to indict Karl Rove, but instead decided to beat up on Dick Cheney’s little boyfriend Scooter Libby.

New time, same old shit.

Jay Leno wasn’t funny at 11:30pm, so why the fuck does NBC think he’ll be funny at 10pm? Seriously, with all the layoffs in this country how the hell does that unfunny mutherfucker still have a job?
