Surrogate mommies, Barren women, and the NYT

From the NYT- Her Body, My Baby
November 30th, 2008 1:59 pm
This nine page story can be reduced down to a few sentences. Rich, over privileged, misguided white woman is too stupid and arrogant to just adopt a baby like a normal person.

— Aaron, Tampa

The story is pretty disturbing on a number of levels and this reader comment sums it up best

What a smug article. The author comes across as extremely self-centered. Instead of using this article to discuss the true ethical, socioeconomic issues surrounding surrogacy, she brushes them aside because it’s more convenient to pretend they don’t exist. You would think that the only ethical issue involved in surrogacy is how awful it is that such a privileged woman is denied anything in life. Poor choice, NYT.

The New Xbox Live Experience

November 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I like it. The avatars are really adorable. I find myself looking through my friends list three or four times just to look at everyones little avatar. Although I hate to admit it, when M$ starts selling designer clothes and accessories for the avatars I know I’ll be buying. I’m already looking to buy a premium theme to impress my friends list. I’ve watched some of the new video content and will probably continue to check that stuff out on a regular basis. I’m also very interested in getting Netflix via live streaming. The only problem is that I’m running out of space on my harddrive and I may need to upgrade soon.

Call of Duty World at War gives me a migraine.

November 26, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’ve beaten the Call of Duty 2 single player on veteran. I’ve beaten Call of Duty 4 single player on veteran. I probably will not beat Call of Duty World at War on veteran. No, it’s not because I have something against this particular game or Treyarch. It’s the fact that beating Call of Duty 2 and 4 on veteran was a miserable experience filled with infinite enemy respawn closets, getting killed in the cheapest video gamey way, AI teammates that are fucking worthless and do nothing but get in my fucking way, and get me killed. I just can’t deal with that bullshit again. I’m at the point where I really don’t give a fuck anymore about gamerscore or bragging rights. I don’t need the anger and frustration. I don’t need the stress, and I can’t afford another broken controller. I literally played the single player for about twenty minutes before all the bad memories of previous Call of Duties came back.

Now for the positives. Yes there are some positives. Thus far I must say this is the best WWII game ever, though not better than Call of Duty 2 in it’s time. I’ve completed the first 3 missions and have been somewhat impressed. The voice acting in the game is excellent. The game overall has more violence and cursing than COD4. As far as the multiplayer,  it’s the same old shit. Enemies magically respawn right behind you, and in general there is a whole lot of camping. Fortunately the spawn camping and trapping that was such a problem early on in COD 4 is not an issue in WAW. The main problem right now is that the weapons are totally unbalanced. SMGs have too much range, LMGs are too accurate. There are some really great maps like Asylum, Upheval, and Outskirts. Then there are maps that are too dam big like Seelow, and maps I fucking hate like Roundhouse, and Makin. Calling in the dogs is pretty awesome.

It will be interesting to see how Treyarch supports the game in the months ahead, by way of updates and map packs. Overall Infinity Ward did a shitty job of supporting Call of Duty 4 by waiting way too long to release the desperately needed first patch, and underwhelming us all with a very meager map pack.

So is this game worth buying? I would say yes and no. The question is how many damn Call of Duties do you need? For me personally, in this current economic environment I can’t justify buying a game that is just a mod of another game. The fact is that COD 4 is still a better game with better weapons.

My score for Call of Duty World at War is 8.8

Where the fuck are all the sales?

November 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I went to the Gap last week. Generally I don’t like the Gap because their clothing sucks. Actually I’m somewhat surprised that they aren’t bankrupt yet. While I was there I did buy a shirt. I’m pleased with my purchase. The shirt fits me well and looks pretty good on me. But the thing that pissed me off is that it was full price. WTF? We’re in an economic downturn and I want discounts! The least they could do is give me a second shirt for 50% off or something. As a matter of fact all of the shit in the mall that I wanted to buy that day was not on sale.

The Palin Fixation

November 12, 2008 · 2 Comments

If you’re wondering why you’re seeing Sarah Palin’s stupid face all over the MSM this week it’s because the retarded little bitch is trying to make herself into a power player in the Republican party. It’s clear that the MSM loves her. But not for the reasons that you might think. The truth is, the MSM loves two things, a winner, or a disaster in progress. I’ll let you figure out which catergory fits Sarah Palin.

The rise of Sarah Palin all but guarantees the fall of the Republican party as a viable national party. The civil war within the party should be really fun to watch over the next eight years. Right now it’s pretty obvious that the two factions within the Republican party can no longer coexist. On one side you have the ignorant, uneducated, racist, white trash christian base of the Republican party. (also known as Palin supporters) Then on the other side you have the corporate Republicans, who look down on the shitty base with disdain, but know that they need those retards in order to win elections. The two sides lived in a tenuous harmony during the Bush years, but now all hell is about to break loose, and a Republican house divided against itself, cannot stand.

Message to the U.S auto industry

November 12, 2008 · 1 Comment

American cars suck. American cars have sucked for a long time. But lets not focus on the past, lets look to the future. I have an idea. Listen carefully. Stop making those shitty cars you’ve been making. Instead look at Honda and Toyota, then copy the fuck out of them. I’m talking straight up copy cat type shit. Problem solved.

Local Tampa Politics

November 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

One of the great highlights of last nights local results was the stunning defeat of right wing dumb ass Brian Blair. He lost his Hillsborough County Commissioner District 6 seat to Democrat Kevin Beckner. What made this race so interesting is that Beckner is openly gay. Brian Blair being the typical low life right-winger that he is, decided to take that race into the gutter and play smear the queer. Blair ran commercials featuring his wife, who talked about how she and her idiot husband have been married for 26 years. Also in the last weeks of the campaign Blair became desperate and began running gay bashing robo calls against Beckner. But in the end the Obama effect was too great even for the well-funded right wing piece of shit Brian Blair to overcome.

This is not simply a victory of a party or a race, this is a victory for all of humanity.
