I solve the Packers “Brett Favre” problem

July 30, 2008 · 3 Comments

I don’t watch TV so I can only imagine the horror of ESPN’s 24 hour Brett Favre crisis coverage. So I feel it is my duty to mediate this problem and provide a workable solution for both the Packers and Brett Favre. It’s very simple. The NFL is a win now league. Brett Favre gives the Packers the best chance to win right now, and that’s all that matters. Aaron Rodgers is unproven, and at best he may never even amount to 3/4 of what Brett Favre currently is. It’s not even debatable. In the free agency era, teams only have a small window in which to break through and win a Superbowl, the Packers are right there, their time is right now, and Brett Favre is ready to go. So this crap about building for the future with Aaron Rodgers is just silly. By the way we don’t even know if Aaron Rodgers is an NFL caliber QB or if he can stay healthy for a full season.

The Braves screw up, again…

July 30, 2008 · 3 Comments

Is this the kind of baseball I have to look forward to when I move to Atlanta? Yesterday the Braves gave away super slugger Mark Teixeira for the mediocre and unimpressive Casey Kotchman. Someone needs to explain to Braves GM Frank Wren that you don’t give away a young hometown hero who is second only to Ryan Howard in HR and RBI’s since last year. Yes I know Teixeira is a free agent at the end of the season, and will demand A-rod type money. That’s the market, so pay the man what he’s worth. Instead the Braves foolishly gave him away for nothing. And the worst part is that they gave away top prospect Jared Saltamacchia and others to get Teixeira only to give him away less than a year later. This kind of miss management is a perfect example as to why the Braves have only won one championship in twenty years. It’s a sad day when the Tampa Bay Rays are a better run organization than the once mighty Atlanta Braves.

DAM YOU BENNIGANS!

July 29, 2008 · 2 Comments

A customer tries the door of the Tyrone area Bennigan's in St. Pete.

Bennigans is going out of bussiness, presumably because their food sucks. Do I care, hell no. EXECEPT FOR THE FACT THAT I HAVE AN UNUSED $20 BENNIGANS GIFT CARD! I was going to use it saturday night before I went to see Batman again, but at the last minute plans changed and I went to a different resturant. Now what am I to do? Will i never know the sweet taste of Bennigans food upon my lips again? Woe is me…

NCAA 2009 Xbox 360 Review

July 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It’s hard to review a game that is essentially the same exact game every year. This of course is the lifelong dilemma of the sports game reviewer, but I digress. I didn’t buy NCAA 09 the first day it came out, instead I rented it. After playing it for a few days I came to the conclusion that it is worth buying, but not until it’s patched

As usual EA sports quality assurance is the biggest oxymoron in the industry. There is currently a glitch in the EA locker roster download feature that causes the game to crash if you edit players. Right now the game is buggy as hell. It’s got the worst secondary AI that I’ve ever seen. Don’t be shocked when in critical moments your defenders in the secondary stand around doing nothing and decide not to guard anyone.

Wide receivers consistently do the tippy toes sideline catch for no good reason even when their five yards away from the side lines. The CPU controlled offensive players run out of bounds for no reason. Oh and don’t be shocked when you see the CPU QB go 27-28 passing. Don’t be surprised when the CPU nails a 56-yard FG like it’s nothing.

Overall the graphics and lighting look great, although the player models are still annoyingly tiny. Oh, and no camera controls again. How next gen of EA. The weather effects are the best I’ve ever seen in a sports video game. I loved the rain effect, snow is great, but the field degradation is nonexistent.

Heisman difficulty has gone from impossible mode, to basically equal to a harder version of All American. All American has been dumbed down to varsity level, or worse. Most disappointing of all is after you win the national championship there is no celebration what so ever. It’s actually worse than NCAA 08.

The world according to Rush Limbaugh

July 25, 2008 · 1 Comment

Apparently Barack Obama is a liar and a bullshit artist, but George W. Bush is a paragon of truth and honesty. In other news, Rush Limbaugh is a pill popping drug addict.

If you’ve got 135 minutes to kill

Watch this movie. Where the Buffalo Roam It’s about the life of Hunter S. Thompson and it stars Bill Murray of all people. It’s an interesting movie and it has it’s moments. It’s no where near the insane head trip that is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. But like i said, it has it’s moments.

Closing time.

July 24, 2008 · 4 Comments

Tonight I went to what will most likely be my last Emerge Tampa (chamber of commerce) event. It’s was at Splitsville at Channelside. The event had a decent turnout but it wasn’t great, I think part of that was due to the fact that the event cost $20 and involved bowling, most of the bar events tend to be free. Sadly alot of my favorite corporate hotties no showed tonight. But even still, I’m going to miss Emerge. Their events are always filled with some of Tampa’s best and brightest, and plenty of attractive single women.

Discourse on Bar.

July 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The truth is I don’t really like bars. I don’t like alcohol. Nor do I like women who drink. I almost never drink more than two lite beers. I hate the taste of beer. Frankly I have no interest in bar culture or bar lingo. I’ve never been interested in hooking up. I’ve never hooked up with any woman that I’ve met in a bar, and I never will. I don’t go to bars necessarily to meet women, although that is part of the fun. Sometimes I just go to hang out. I need to go to more art events. I haven’t been to an art show in about two months.
