The internet making me retarded.

June 29, 2008 · 2 Comments

I went two months without home internets. It was difficult at first, but I survived, adapted, and evolved! I began to read more, I dusted off the old acoustic guitar. I had quiet times, I wrote poetry.

I was in an interesting place, psychologically speaking…

Unfortunately that all ended last thursday when I paid my outstanding balance and got my home internet access turned back on. I can say with all honesty, I think I am a better human-being without internet access. There is something to be said for being able to have cable and internet, and then choosing not to have cable and internet. I’ve completely divorced myself of cable. Maybe it’s time to do the same with home internet.

Frankly, I liked being unplugged from 24/7 news, pop culture bullshit, and endless commercial bombardment.

tampa’s nearly naked sushi=Fucking lame

June 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

The Dirty Martini’s naked sushi night, held the first Tuesday of every month, has been quite a hit with free sushi served in a very unusual fashion.

Apparently the concept of naked sushi is completely new to the stupid noobs that live here in tampa. The concept is so new to them that they can’t even execute it correctly. Behold, nearly naked sushi.

Let me explain to you why this chic ISN’T naked. Florida and america in general are built on phony, fake ass, hypocritical, right wing christian values. These fucking phonies are more than happy with unnecessary war, and the killing of innocent civilians, but god forbid you offend their christian values with public and or private displays of sex and or nudity. You heathen, don’t you know that nudity is evil! Sex is sin! So yeah, that’s how you get stupidity like nearly naked sushi and tampa’s infamous 3 foot rule where strippers are not allowed to give lap dances, or even get fully naked.

and why is it that every fucking bar now wants to be hip and trendy and serve sushi? and another thing, if your sushi is not being made by Asian people, preferably Japanese people, then you’re probably eating white people sushi, you’re eating the fake shit. You might as well go to Mcdonalds and order a McRainbow Roll. and for the record i don’t even like sushi, or strippers, or trendy upscale bars.

this whole shit offends my sensibilities because it’s so fucking ghey. I want the real shit, not the fake shit, not the safe shit, not the nearly naked shit. I bet that bar is filled with a bunch of stupid ass nickelback fans. fuck them.

The Recession Diet

June 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

I glanced at an article in the NY Times a few weeks ago about something called the recession diet. I didn’t actually read the article, but I got the gist of what they were talking about. When you’re broke and on a budget, you’ll learn a new skill, and that skill is called reading the weekly supermarket flyer and buying the shit that is on sale or bogo. The one thing that i’ve noticed is that the most unhealthy foods are always the cheapest. You know of which I speak, Jenos frozen pizza, frosted flakes, Soda, Hotdogs, Chips, Kraft Mac and Cheese. Oh and honorable mention to the devil himself, the Mcdonalds dollar menu and his hoe girlfriend Wendy’s.

I try not to eat any of the unhealthy shit and fortunately there are some cheap healthy alternatives. They are tuna, chicken breast (when it’s on sale), brown rice, quaker old fashion oats, broccoli, green beans, lettuce, tomatoes (when there is a salmonella scare)  Pasta, although pasta is very high carb, beggars can’t be choosy. Last but not least, tomato paste for homemade sauce. This is basically the shit that i eat, every frickin day. I can’t afford no juice, that shits too expensive, a half a gallon of OJ is like $4. So instead i buy a gallon of orange gatorade for $3.99

Passive aggressive dating pursuits. part 2

June 26, 2008 · 3 Comments

So, I messaged that girl from the bar. As I mentioned previously, I’ve known her for a year or so. I was always under the impression that she wasn’t single, but I was somewhat curious and thought that maybe, just maybe, she might be single. Here is how todays Facebook drama went down.

Her reply was ”Right now it is a little complicated, but no I am not single.”

My reply was “If your sitituation changes, you know where to find me”.

We’ll see if anything comes of it, but for now, I must go back to the “meetspace 2.0″ aka the bar.

The NBA draft

June 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m a long suffering Knicks fan. Tonight the Knicks are in a very interesting spot with the 6th pick overall. If anyone was paying attention, the Knicks were one of the worst teams in the league last year and the year before that, and the year before that, but thanks to David Stern’s retarded, ridiculous fixed draft lottery, the Knicks will not have a shot at drafting one of the three franchise players in this draft. But they will have a shot at either Eric Gordon, Danilo Gallinari, Jared Bayless, or maybe the ultra sleeper and my personal favorite Joe Alexander.

In my opinion Gallinari is the most interesting of the four, and the best fit for the Knicks. I love European players, and you should too. I love them because they’re not american, and their money is worth more than ours, and their accents are awesome. Also it probably doesn’t hurt that Europeans players are so fundamentally sound, they play the game the way it was meant to be played. I also like Eric Gordon a lot, but he is somewhat limited off the dribble, and he is a bit of a tweener.

I have a bad feeling that the Knicks won’t draft Gallinari or Gordon but instead opt for the highly unimpressive Russell Westbrook. Hopefully the Knicks won’t screw this up.

Editors note*

David Stern’s NBA sucks. He has presided over fixed regular season games, he has presided over fixed playoff games, he has presided over NBA draft lotteries that sure as hell look fixed. How does this moron keep his job?

Old games are still great games

June 25, 2008 · 3 Comments

I’m not sure why, but all of a sudden I’m way into last gen games. It started three weeks ago when I literally dusted off my old Xbox, PS2, and Game cube. I would like to say that my recent interest in last gen gaming is due to the fact that I am currently broke and I’m not able to buy new video games, but that is not actually the case. The fact of the matter is that I’ve kind of woken up to the fact that old games are still good games, and it some cases they are truly great games.

So what am I playing right now? Well last week I picked up a copy of Resident Evil 4 for PS2. It’s been said that RE4 is the scariest game of all time, it’s also been called one of the greatest games of all time. I’ve heard people say, don’t play this game late at night in the dark. So yeah, I’ve been playing it late at night in the dark, and yeah it is a pretty creepy game. The only other game that I’ve ever played that I consider somewhat scary is Doom 3. As a matter of fact I’m currently playing Doom 3 aswell. The other PS2 game that I bought last week with RE4 was Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence. Seeing as how I don’t have a PS3, I needed to get my Metal Gear fix from somewhere.

While sifting through my personal collection of last gen games I was surprised at how many awesome games I have, but have hardly ever played. This is my list of shame-

Ratchet and Clank: Up your arsenal. An awesome game, why the hell am I not playing it right now?

Prince of Persia/Sands of Time. I think I played this game for less than a half hour

God of War. One of the greatest games of all time, and I never got past the first boss

GTA San Andreas. Left off somewhere in the middle of the game. so much gang violence, so little time

GTA Vice City. I’m not even sure where I left off in this game

Legend of Zelda/The Wind Waker. Umm, it’s a good game, but I may eBay this one soon.

Mario Sunshine. See Above

Star Was Knights of the Old Republic. This was my first attempt at playing an RPG, lets just say that the force was not with me.

Ninja Gaiden. Great game, boss fights are hard as hell, broke at least one controller playing this back in the day

SSX3. Pure fun, I just bought Amped 3 for 360 the other day. It’s got nothing on SSX3

ESPN NFL2K5. The legend, the classic, oh what could have been, but the EA fascist death star bought the NFL license and subsequently ruined video game football.

MVP 2005. A baseball classic, nuff said.

NBA Street 2. The only NBA street game that is worth a shit. This game has the music, the announcer, the gameplay, and most of all this game has “Stretch”. I reminisce over this game, and trouble T Roy.

When that person from HS messages you on facebook

June 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Ummm, yeah so my girlfriend from 11th grade/almost 15 years ago just messaged me on face book. How odd. I don’t remember our relationship being that special. We did make-out quite a bit, but she wouldn’t let me touch the boobies! Which was somewhat excusable seeing as how she was a 10th grader at the time. She was a cutey, and she was the president of her class, I wonder what she grew up to be. Anyways i feel weird about responding, but i will.

Oh in other Facebook news i still haven’t messaged that girl from last thursday, the girl from the bar, you know of which i speak? If not, go back and read last friday’s post you jerk.

Metal Gear Solid 4

June 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I would love to write about MGS4 but there is one problem, I don’t own a PS3 and  I refuse to pay $399 to get one. Perhaps I may buy one used on ebay if I can get it for less than $300. Unfortunately, in this console generation Xbox 360 is king, and I’m not going to buy another console just for one damn game. Frankly PS3 has very few compelling reasons for purchase. There are only two PS3 games that I’m even interested in, and that is MGS4 and Ratchet and Clank Future.

I would like to describe myself as a Metal Gear fan, but in reality my gameplay history would indicate otherwise. I’ve only beaten the original Metal Gear for NES, and that was 20 years ago and I’m not even sure if I actually made it off the island before it exploded. I’ve never played Metal Gear Solid for PS1, although in 1999 my friend Kenny gave me his copy. Believe it or not I actually still have that game.  In 2001 I bought Metal Gear Solid 2 when it first came out, but somewhere along the way I stopped playing it and traded it in. But now that I’m in my Metal Gear Nostalgia phase I decided to pick up a used copy of MGS2. The funny thing was that I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to find my memory card with my last MGS2 save on it, but shockingly, the memory card that is currently in my PS2 had the save on it, even though I hadn’t played the game since 2002. Even more shocking was how close to the end of the game I was. I remember getting sick of the game right around the Vamp boss fight, and yup, that is pretty much where I left off.

So I started on my mission to get reacquainted with the Metal Gear story and characters, while also beating the game. It took me about 20 minutes to get reacclaimated with those wacked out old school MGS overhead camera controls and to beat Vamp. Things were going fairly smoothly until I got to the second to last boss, aka Metal Gear Ray and friends. To make a long story short, after about an hour of frustration, I threw it away. Why should I waste my time trying to beat this game, I couldn’t stand it in 01, and guess what, I can’t stand it in 08. It’s not like I’ll get any achievement points for beating this dam thing. It’s not like I give up when a game gets difficult, hell, I beat the infamous Call of Duty 2 on the hardest level, Veteran.  I beat Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare on Veteran as well, so believe me fair reader, I’ve been through the fire and I’m battle tested.

On the bright side, Last week I also picked up a copy of Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence. I’m sure I’ll get much more enjoyment out of this Metal Gear because it was made in 2006 and has modern first person shooter controls, and most importantly I’m playing this game on Easy.  Expect to hear more of my thoughts and gameplay impressions as I make my way through Metal Gear Solid Subsistence.
